FA reaches verdict over derby day scenes

It emerged today that the FA had finally reached a decision on what action would be handed out to Nottingham Forest and their rivals Derby County, following the ugly scenes at the end of the game in August.

As you know Forest won the game 3-2 to record their first win over the Rams since 2003. After Robbie Savage's disrespectful actions at the end of the game last season, Nathan Tyson responded this year by waving a corner flag with the famous Forest badge on it in front of the travelling Derby fans. This led to a huge melee involving players from both sides as well as members of each team's coaching staff.

The FA have decided to hand Tyson a 2 game ban and fined the striker £5,000. The Reds have been ordered to pay £25,000 of which £10,000 is suspended. Forest were warned about their future conduct.

Derby were also warned about their future conduct and were fined £20,000 of which £10,000 is suspended.

Manager Billy Davies will certainly be disapointed to lose Tyson, who has had an explosive start to the season on the left wing and comes at a time when Forest are just two points off the top of the table following a 5 match winning streak.

What are your thoughts on the punishments for both teams and Tyson? Do you think they are fair? How will the Reds cope without their number eleven?

  1. I think he's right to be charged but I think a 3 game ban is a pretty harsh punishment. We saw with the Adebayor incident against Arsenal earlier in the season that stupid acts like this does nothing but cause trouble and I think Tyson was just as stupid with his actions. To wave the forest badge at the derby fans is stupid and un called for, had he done it to his own fans then fine. Think a hefty fine would be suitable punishment and maybe 1 game ban but 3 games appears really excessive.

Think forest will definately miss him, he's been playing well recently and with tricky trips to Palace and Cardiff coming up I really think Forest will struggle up front, but hopefully i'm wrong and that they'll continue their impressive five match winnign streak and hopefully they'll be back in the top division next season.

The biggest league needs the biggest clubs!!!

  3. Thanks for the comments Matt.

I think it was naive of Tyson, I'll admit that but I think it was sheer emotion coming through and he just got caught up in the heat of the moment. I actaully believe he was going to do a lap of the ground and just didnt actually realise what he was doing.

Losing Tyson will be a blow but Billy bought numerous attacking players in the summer so hopefully we can accomodate his absence. Mcleary, Mcgoldrick and Anderson should still offer us pace and direction on the wings.

  4. Hi Jonno

As it was a 2 match suspended ban he should be okay as long as he keeps his nose clean.

More to the point why did Forest get a bigger fine than Direby when it was the sheep who started teh melee

  5. Im not sure why we recieved a bigger fine than Derby. Im assuming it was because we were the home team and because of the whole Tyson incident.

I believe both teams should have recieved the same punishment really as they were both as bad as each other.

    Thanks for the comments.
